I’m Mikołaj Stojanowicz (b.1998), a Polish-born multidisciplinary artist based in Rotterdam. My works are profoundly shaped by growing up in Soviet-era apartment blocks. This grey, repetitive and angular environment provoked a creative practice that bridges the physical and digital world. Influenced by personal obsessions with the internet, video games, my own memories, and limitations, I use a digitized form language to express a limbo of transition and self-reflection.

My pieces explore the unconscious and aim to capture a raw equilibrium between a calculated form language and chaotic imperfection. Pixelated imagery – featuring places, people, icons, nostalgia, and the unknown – dominates my works. These evocative visuals offer a sense of familiarity, as if they are products of collective memory.

Through my art, I strive to create relationships between the online and offline, the digital and non-digital, the material and immaterial. In doing so, I reflect on personal and social identity in an age of increasing digitalization. My works also explore the tension between physical and mental space, aiming to tap into latent memories and dormant thoughts. With my works, I encourage viewers to engage with their own unconscious and reflect on contemporary identity in the 21st century.
